Not so long time ago I’ve read a gorgeous book “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” by Jonathan Safran Foer, a modern novelist. It was published in 2005. The plot consists of three life stories of three different people, which are bonded by one common event – the death of Thomas Shell, who tragically died in 11 September 2001, when the World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists. Author tells us about Thomases family – about his father, his mother and his little son. We get to know about their lives, about their happy moments and moments of grief and misery.
This book is not about what happened after Thomas had died; actually it comprises memories which range from The Second World War to our days.
To be honest, it’s really hard for me to write about the book without spoiling its plot. And I also have to admit that “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” became on of my most favorite books that I’ve ever read.
The film based on this book came out in July 2011, starring Thomas Horn, Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock. It’s directed by Stephen Deldry. The movie was nominated to the Oscar like “Best Picture” and “Best Supporting Actor”.
I haven’t seen this film, but I really want to. I just saw the trailer, which includes one of my most favorite songs “Where Streets Have No Name” by U2. I hope that I’ll have enough spare time during my Christmas holidays to watch it.

I haven't read the book, but I did see this movie in the theater when it came out. It was very good. The ending was quite a surprise! I won't ruin it either.
ОтветитьУдалитьI became really intrested by your post! I have not read neither book nor watched the movie, but now I think that I will do it on holidays. Although I see that it is quite serious movie, I think that it will teach me something new and interesting. Anyway, holiday is not only for fun, but for some serious thoughts too.
ОтветитьУдалитьI wrote this book last spring and liked it very much too. In my opinion, this book is really different from others because the main story comes from a little boy, who lost his father at the terrorist attack. Another stories comes from Thomas relatives, which are based on memories too. In the life of every main characters has happened a tragedy, and the author shows readers how they are trying to live with it. Unfortunately, I haven't watched film yet, but I'm going to do it in nearest future.
ОтветитьУдалитьIra, thank you for this post. I have heard a lot of times about this book! Everyone told that this book is wonderful. I believed them, so when I didn’t have any ideas for presents, I bought this book and presented it. Finally, I came up with idea also to read this book. I bought an English copy of it. Unfortunately, I haven’t read it yet. Thank you for reminding about it. This book has a really serious plot, that is why it caught my attention too. I hope that I will read it on our holidays.
ОтветитьУдалитьWhat a coincidence) I'm also trying to read this book in English now. I say *try* because it's really difficult to read more than five pages at a time when each of them is so rich in profound emotions and feelings.. Have you watched the film since the time you posted your blog?
ОтветитьУдалитьThanks that you haven't spoiled the plot)
