Unpaid Internship

Today’s morning I read two interesting articles about unpaid internships, “Take This Internship and Shove It” written by Anya Kamenetz and “No Pay? Many Interns Say, “No Problem”” by Jennifer Halperin. These articles are both about the situation in modern America, when young people want to work as unpaid interns before graduating from universities.
Personally I think that unpaid internship has many drawbacks, such as “overidentification with employers”, lowering the demand on the labor market (Why do managers find constant workers, if they can to find interns every time?) and so on. Anya Kamenetz writes, “Web site, found that 84 percent of college students in April planned to complete at least one internship before graduating”, and in the end of her article it’s said that “Interns are like illegal immigrants”. However, in my opinion, students should find a job that would be paid, because they don’t need to get special skills before graduating from university and what’s more, they usually need money for living.
To sum up, I think that unpaid internship has a huge number of drawbacks, and even though it  can’t be called as a major problem in the USA, working with no getting any money for it presumably may have bad consequences for students, therefore, it’s better for them to start getting not only experience but also money for what do they do.

Places I want to go

There are so many interesting places in Moscow, where I can go to, but I've visited only one museum since I arrived in Moscow. It was Vladimir Mayakovsky’s museum, really unusual place, which doesn’t resemble the other museums, where I was.
In this post I will write about places, which I’d like to visit in the nearly future:
• “The Importance of Being Earnest”, the Oscar Wilde’s play, which is put on the Moscow theatre “MOCT” stage
• “An Ideal Husband”. It’s an Oscar Wilde’s play too, but it’s put on the stage of another Moscow theatre.
• Ghost stations in the Moscow metro, for example “Spartak Stadium”. I realize that visiting them is practically impossible, but I really want to go there, because it is seems quite fascinating to me. I think there are not many people who have ever visited these ghost stations.
• The Tagansky Protected Command Point, it’s a Moscow museum, which was an initially bunker, built during the Cold War.
• Grinberg Gallery, which is simply another interesting place I’d like to go to.
To sum up, there is a large number of different places and things to be explored in Moscow. All of them are absolutely unique and very unusual, they attract me and I hope that I’ll be able to visit them all.

Blog #9

Russian and American traditions are very different. In USA the general winter celebration is Christmas, but in Russia it is New Year. To make the distinction more clear, I’d like to compare and contrast those holidays in this post.
New Year in Russia:
•    The fictional character as the symbol of New Year is Ded Moroz
•    New Year’s gifts are considered as brought by Ded Moroz
•    Many Russians watch “The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!” at 31th December. This movie was filmed more than 35 years ago, and it’s always been shown before New Year ’s Eve since 1975.
•    The most popular New Year food is Olivier salad.
•    Everyone watches President’s New Year appeal to the nation and the chime when clock strikes midnight
American Christmas:
•    Christmas presents is brought by Santa Claus, which he put in sucks
•    Santa Claus is the symbol of Christmas
•    Christmas presents are considered as brought by Santa
•    The most popular movie during the Christmas holidays is “It’s Wonderful Life”, which was released in 1946.
•    Practically every festive table includes roast Turkey
Russians and Americans have a similar tradition such as decorating a Christmas tree.
To sum up, despite the fact that Russian and American general holidays are different, the prime celebrating traditions are very resembling. Both nations have their own “special” film  which is extremely popular and well-known for them,  the festive table  comprises one special dish, which is mostly on every table, and children believe that there’s an old kind man who brings them gifts, miracles and happiness.

Bond... James Bond

Daniel Craig as James Bond and his Aston Martin DB5
Finally, the film I've been looking forward to seeing has come out. It's called "Skyfall" and it's the 23th film about worldwide known British secret agent James Bond, who is fond of beautiful women, vodka-martini and gambling. Actually "Skyfall" is not an exception - it's full of things like this.
4 years after "Quantum of solace" (which was nothing but dissapointment) came out, authors managed to revive with the quite fascinating story about mr. Bond. It's all about the betrayal of the whole british intelligence by its ex-agent who tried to take vengeance. The film's packed with chasing, shooting and fighting. Moreover, while watching the film i found myself brought back to memories about old James Bond films with Sean Connery. Stanbul Scene reminded me about the second film "From Russia With Love", and  MI 6 crew was fully restored with James secretary Ms. Moneypenny and his gadget supplier (and also inventor) Q. And even his vehicle, the legendary Aston Martin DB5 surprisingly appeared in the last scene when James and M were heading for his mansion called "Skyfall".
Q (Ben Whishaw)
I also enjoyed the cast a lot, especially Ben Whishaw as "all-new" Q. Daniel Craig dealed with playing charming and ironic secret agent perfectly, just like he did in two previous films about Bond.
I've been sitting with a nostalgic smile over my face during the whole film since it began with the great song by Adele and ended up with that famous scene with mr. Bond walking on the white background and shooting the camera.
